Yoga Program Addresses Stress and Burnout in Healthcare Professionals While Providing Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits

by admin ·

Houston, TX (PRWEB) January 04, 2012

While medical professionals are increasingly called upon to treat physical conditions related to stress, they themselves are also experiencing significantly elevated levels of stress and burnout. Isha Foundations 3-day Inner Engineering Program teaches simple but powerful yogic methods to counter this stress and to improve mental clarity and focus. As an additional incentive for medical professionals, the program provides up to 26 hours* of accredited continuing education for physicians, physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners, and, in certain circumstances, licensed social workers and marriage and family therapists. The program will be conducted by Isha Foundations founder, yogi Sadhguru Vasudev, at Houstons George R. Brown Convention Center from May 4-6, 2012.

Derived from the ancient science of yoga, Inner Engineering is a powerful program that instills a deep sense of inner balance, joy and mental clarity. Health care practitioners attending Inner Engineering have often remarked upon personal benefits they have received from the program, as well as benefits to their actual practice of health care. States Dr. Mark Halonen, a family physician from Michigan, The wisdom and practices taught in this course continue to impact my life to this day. A greater sense of inner calmness, more control, and how I choose to respond to life are benefits that are still evident and I feel will always be with me.

In a 2010 survey, over 500 people practicing Inner Engineerings 21 minute meditative practice,

reported on their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, as well as their medication usage. The survey found that over 50% of respondents reported major physical health improvements ranging from lowered blood pressure to alleviated chronic headaches and insomnia. Also, over 70% of respondents reported significant improvements in overall mental health including increased clarity, concentration and productivity.

As a doctor, I know about the challenges of treating patients, and I have discovered that many

problems cannot be solved with prescriptions but, rather, require a deeper understanding of the body. I took this program a few years ago, and it has changed my life. I have watched as my husband and three kids attended the program, along with numerous friends and co-workers, and I never cease to be amazed at what yoga has done for them. My husband’s blood pressure has dropped considerably, and he has been able to bring his weight under control. My own concentration and memory have sharpened, helping to make my work more efficient – whether it be examining patients or prescribing treatment, says Dr. Kalpana Rajdev, M.D., a family physician and president of Isha Foundation, Inc. The practice taught in Inner Engineering is very subtle, but the results are profound. It does not require physical agility or flexibility. Powerful breathing techniques raise energy levels and bring balance to the system, and the meditation brings awareness of the body. Regardless of whether a person has a serious medical condition or not, he will benefit both physically and mentally from doing the daily practice.

According to Isha Foundation founder and Inner Engineering instructor Sadhguru Vasudev, health

benefits attained as a result of Inner Engineering are the by-product of overall balance achieved within the system. As he explained in a recent Huffington Post article, “In yoga, when we say ‘health,’ we don’t look at the body or the mind; we only look at the energy. If your energy body is in proper balance and in full flow, your physical body and mental body will be in perfect health.”

*The opportunity to earn continuing education credit is an additional incentive for medical practitioners to complete the Inner Engineering program. The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 26 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). AAPA accepts Category 1 CME credit for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCME. This program also meets the qualifications for 26 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Founded 30 years ago by Sadhguru, the Isha Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating human potential through the ancient yogic system. The foundation has been providing yoga and meditation programs for more than 30 years in over 150 cities, and the yogic practices taught in these programs are practiced by millions of people worldwide.

An introductory video of Inner Engineering can be viewed at http://www.InnerEngineering.com/Houston.

Furthermore, a free meditation process which will provide powerful ongoing support for internal

balance, can be experienced at http://www.IshaKriya.com.
